In Australia, the YMCA is made up of 18 Member Associations supporting over 741 communities in the areas of Healthy Living, Empowering Young People and Social Impact. Wherever the Y is, we strive to make a positive difference by providing each and every person opportunity to be healthy, happy and connected. We have over 14,000 staff across the country and around 2,000 volunteers, who are the backbone of the YMCA. Each year we have over 28 million participations in our programs and services across the country! The majority of these are in the healthy living space – with 18 million participations in our health clubs. Our youth specific programs have over 1 million participations, and we have over 3 million participations in our children’s services including kindergartens, early learning centres, outside school hours care and vacation care.
The Skate Park Leagues is the main national program for YMCA Action Sports (YAS). YAS is a not-for-profit social enterprise that specialises in the innovation, development and delivery of programs and events relating to action sports across Australia. YAS currently manages Skate Park Leagues and the Australian Skateboarding League, along with offering clinics, other competitions, skate park activations and other action sport based events and programs.
Since 1996, the YMCA has been managing skate parks and for the past 20+ years, the YMCA has invested in YAS to build and support the Australian action sports community. Thanks to YMCA’s support, along with working with many other like-minded organisations, YAS is able to train, employ and empower young people so they can deliver action sport events across Australia.
